The problem

Multi-state tax is two problems, and most tools solve one.

Selling into multiple states means tracking rates and rules across thousands of jurisdictions that change constantly. Done by hand, it costs 15 to 30 minutes per invoice, and the errors are the expensive kind: tax collected that shouldn't have been, exempt sales with no certificate on file, and audit findings that arrive years later.

Most integrations stop at the rate. Nexline closes both halves: the calculation and the paperwork behind it.

Two modules, one integration

Pick the calculation, the certificates, or both.

Module 1

Nexline Tax for AvaTax

Every invoice gets the correct rate from Avalara's database of all 50 states, territories and local jurisdictions.

  • Rate determination from ship-to jurisdiction and nexus
  • Invoice commit on post, recorded in Avalara immediately
  • Voids and credits sync back as credit memos
  • Optional address validation before calculation
  • Product tax codes for exempt goods, food, clothing and services
Module 2

Nexline Certs for CertExpress

The exemption side, automated end to end: the piece most ERP tax projects leave as a manual chore.

  • Certificate requests go out to exempt customers from Avalara
  • Customers complete a guided, state-specific wizard
  • Avalara validates the certificate against the state's rules
  • The validated certificate is written to the Cetec customer record
  • Exemption status drives tax on the next invoice automatically
What comes off your team's plate

Looking up rates

No spreadsheets, rate tables, or "what does that county charge?"

Tracking exemptions

Government, non-profit and reseller accounts get the right treatment every time.

Chasing certificates

Requests, reminders and validation are handled for you.

Double entry

Cetec and Avalara stay in sync in both directions. No re-keying.

Audit scrambles

Transactions and certificates are already filed and retrievable.

Extra headcount

Volume growth and seasonal spikes need no extra staff.

Why it matters

The certificate ends up in the ERP record.

An exempt sale with no valid certificate behind it is a taxable sale in an auditor's eyes, and the assessment lands on you, not the customer. Nexline writes the validated certificate onto the Cetec customer record, alongside terms and contacts, so AR and sales see it where they already work.
